West Raises Over $4 Million In 3rd Quarter

October 02, 2012 at 4:57 pm

Rep. Allen West’s (R-FL) raised over $4 million in the third quarter of 2012, his campaign reported Tuesday.

The tea party favorite has now raised a staggering $14.5 million this cycle and enters the final leg of the campaign with $3 million cash on hand.

The haul is an astonishing figure for a House freshman.

“With this report, Patrick Murphy’s desperation will only grow,” West’s campaign manager Tim Edson said in a statement.

Edson had some harsh words for Murphy, who reported raising over $1 million in the third quarter on Monday.

“Murphy’s lies, smears and phony poll numbers reinforce the fact he’s just a spoiled brat throwing a fit because his campaign is on the ropes,” Edson said.

Edson, noting that the DCCC canceled a week of airtime it had reserved on Murphy’s behalf, said the Democrat “is realizing his father’s money isn’t enough to save him and he’s lashing out.”

Murphy’s campaign began airing an ad on Tuesday noting that West was reprimanded by the army for firing a pistol near a detainees’ head in Iraq. West was subsequently fined for the 2003 incident and forced to retire.

Murphy’s campaign released the ad in response to a spot West began airing last week comparing Murphy’s 2003 arrest on a disorder conduct charge with the Republican’s service in Iraq that same year.
