Medicare Back In Spotlight, Ryan Returns To Florida

September 21, 2012 at 12:05 pm

With Medicare in the spotlight, Republican vice president nominee Paul Ryan is set to return to Florida this weekend for campaign events.

Following his address at an AARP event in New Orleans, Ryan will fly to Lakeland Linder Regional Airport for a Friday evening fundraiser.  On Saturday, Ryan will hold a rally at Miami’s Versailles Restaurant followed by an event at the University of Central Florida in Orlando.

Using the issue of cuts to Medicare in Ryan’s budget, the Obama campaign is looking to chip away at the lead Republicans typically enjoy with senior citizens.

The Obama campaign on Friday released a new TV ad, which contrasts the president’s plan for Medicare with that of the Romney-Ryan plan.

“It’s true — Mitt Romney would replace Medicare’s guaranteed benefits with a voucher system,” the narrator says in the ad.”The Romney-Ryan plan could raise seniors’ costs up to $6,400 a year.”

In a Palm Beach Post op-ed, Ryan calls Obama’s Medicare-themed attack ads “false and disappointing.”
