Crist’s Conversion, Day Two

August 27, 2012 at 1:44 pm

A day after endorsing President Obama, former Republican FL Gov. Charlie Crist announced Monday that he will be speaking at the Democratic Convention in Charlotte next week.

Many speculate that Crist–who changed his voter registration to “no party affiliation” after he lost the 2010 GOP Senate Primary –will run for governor again in 2014 as a Democrat.

In his Tampa Bay Times op-ed endorsing Obama, Crist criticized what he says is a Republican Party “pitched so far to the extreme right on issues important to women, immigrants, seniors and students that they’ve proven incapable of governing for the people.”

Florida Republican Party chair Lenny Curry called Crist’s endorsement—which has been in the works for months– “a repugnant display from a self-centered, career politician.”

”For Crist to pull this Obama stunt while Florida faces a hurricane only proves Charlie Crist cares about just one thing: Charlie Crist,” said Curry.

Current FL Gov. Rick Scott, meanwhile, has amended his convention activities for the next few days to focus on tropical storm Isaac.
