Boys (And Girls) On The Bus-Cycles
August 10, 2012 at 10:04 am
Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn and RNC co-chair Jan Larimer on Tuesday will unveil the never-before-seen Freewheelin pedal buses, or “bus-cycles,” being made available for free to convention-goers during the Republican National Convention.
Humana, the health insurance company that provided 1,000 bicycles for both the Republican and Democratic National Convention in 2008, is providing 20 Freewheelin pedal buses for the Tampa and Charlotte festivities.
Each “Freewheelin pedal bus” can carry up to nine passengers — including the six outer seats reserved for those who are interested in doing the peddling.
At the Tampa Convention Center on Tuesday, Buckhorn will also unveil the pre-set pedal bus routes through downtown to get people to convention hot spots. Pedal buses will make stops at multiple Freewheelin stations that will offer free biometric health screenings, fresh fruit and cold water to riders.
