Nelson Goes Up With First Ad

August 01, 2012 at 4:26 pm

Sen. Bill Nelson’s camp will go on air with its first ad buy of the 2012 cycle tomorrow — a positive spot that stresses “family, faith and responsibility.”

The ad draws some subtle contrasts with Nelson’s likely GOP opponent Connie Mack, mentioning the fact that Nelson “paid his own way through school” and has been married to his wife for over 40 years.

Mack, the son of former U.S. Sen. Connie Mack III, has come under fire for what his opponents say is a pattern of irresponsibility –one that includes a messy divorce drama, a bar fight and an incident of road rage.

In the release announcing the ad, Nelson campaign manager Pete Mitchell criticized the flood of negative, PAC ads being run against the two-term Democrat.

“It’s time the people of Florida started getting the truth,” Mitchell said.
