July 26, 2012 at 10:16 am

The City of Clearwater is creating a special welcome for the nearly 50,000 attendees and guests of the Republican National Convention in August with a collection of 50 individually designed dolphin statues. The project, named Clearwater’s Dolphins, was designed to artistically showcase the bottlenose dolphin, an icon of the Tampa Bay and Clearwater area.

According to a release, “the pod of 50 six-foot-tall, fiberglass dolphins recently arrived in the city, and local artists are currently busy transforming them into individual works of art to be displayed and enjoyed in Pier 60 Park. Traveling all the way from the Icon Poly Studio in Gibbon, Nebraska, the dolphins are meant to highlight and celebrate Clearwater’s beautiful beaches and significant marine life.”
