Mack Gets Support From FreedomWorks, Sheldon Adelson

June 19, 2012 at 1:04 pm

FreedomWorks, the powerful Tea Party PAC, endorsed Rep. Connie Mack in the Florida Senate race Tuesday, saying the Fort Meyers Republican “took bold positions to hold government accountable when very few others would.”

In their announcement, FreedomWorks took on Mack’s main primary rival, former Sen. George LeMieux, who was appointed by moderate Gov. Charlie Crist and served on an interim basis.

“George LeMieux boastfully identified himself as a ‘Charlie Christ Republican’ while he worked with Democrats to advance subsidies, environmental mandates and multiple bills expanding the authority of government,” FreedomWorks PAC executive director Max Pappas said in a statement.

The group had originally backed state Rep. Adam Hasner (R) in the race, but he dropped out weeks ago to run instead for a House seat.

Meanwhile, Mack got another endorsement in the form of a cash infusion. Las Vegas casino magnate Sheldon Adelson, who bankrolled Newt Gingrich’s presidential bid, is giving $1 million to the super PAC backing Mack in his Senate bid, a source familiar with the donation told Politico.
